As a provider of GIS services, we want to ensure that our clients are informed about changes in the industry that may impact their mapping applications.

Recently, the State of Texas Natural Resource Information Systems (TNRIS) announced a change in their aerial imagery services that may affect some of our clients. TNRIS instituted a change for all appraisal districts of a price increase for the use of their aerial imagery services, and the freely available use of their service within your desktop or web-based applications will no longer be available. TNRIS recently switched imagery vendors, which resulted in a change in their contractual obligations. As a result, TNRIS is now offering a yearly paid subscription that will provide more frequent data updates and greater clarity in the imagery.

Having high-quality basemap imagery is essential for web mapping applications.

Basemaps are the foundation for all mapping applications and provide context for the layers that are added on top. The clarity and frequency of updates in basemap imagery play a crucial role in the success of mapping applications. Inaccurate or outdated basemap imagery can result in inaccurate analyses, which can lead to poor decision-making. Therefore, it is important to have access to high-quality and up-to-date basemap imagery to ensure the accuracy of mapping applications.

As a mapping application provider, we understand the importance of having high-quality basemap imagery. Our GIS team can assist clients in transitioning to a paid subscriber of TNRIS’s aerial imagery services or exploring other options for aerial imagery services. While there will still be freely available imagery from other sources, the clarity and frequency of updates may not be as high. We can work with clients to identify their needs and recommend the most appropriate options for their specific applications.

In conclusion, the changes to TNRIS’s aerial imagery services serve as a reminder of the importance of having high-quality basemap imagery for web mapping applications.

The quality and frequency of updates in basemap imagery can have a significant impact on the accuracy of mapping applications and the decisions that are made based on them. At BIS, we are committed to providing our clients with the tools and information they need to be successful. We encourage clients to contact us with any questions or concerns they may have regarding these changes or any other mapping application issues.
